Try a 'Safe Boot'.
First identify whether your Mac uses Apple silicon or an Intel processor (Apple menu > About This Mac, if accessible). Shut it down. Apple silicon: hold the power button until startup options appear, select the startup disk, hold Shift, then choose Continue in Safe Mode. Intel: turn on or restart and immediately hold Shift until the login window. Does it reach the desktop?
